The Craniofacial Society is an inter-speciality group set up for the study of cleft lip and palate, and other craniofacial anomalies.

Our main functions are to:

  • organise an annual scientific meeting;
  • sponsor research;
  • comment on medico-political issues relating to cleft lip and palate service provision;
  • provide an archive of conference material;
  • provide a membership directory.

Our current membership reflects the composition of teams throughout the country treating patients with cleft lip and palate and craniofacial anomalies. Current members come from the following professions:

  • Cleft Surgeons (maxillofacial, paediatric and plastic)
  •   Clinical Nurse Specialists
  •   Clinical Psychologists
  •   Orthodontics
  •   Speech and Language Therapy

Among related and supporting disciplines we attract members who are:

  • Anaesthetists
  •   Audiological Physicians
  •   Audiologists
  •   Radiologists
  •   Cleft Network Managers
  •   Dental Technicians
  •   Dental Therapists
  •   Geneticists
  •   Paediatric Dentists
  •   Paediatricians
  •   Restorative Dentists

We also have Life Members, Honorary Members and Senior Members.

Annual meetings are held at varying locations around Great Britain and Ireland. Papers and Posters are invited for inclusion in the conference. The Arnold Huddart Medal was established in 1990 for the encouragement of original and promising research papers and is awarded at the conference.

The Council will provide advice and comment on matters as they arise. The Council meets formally twice a year, but the President can be contacted by email at any time.

Welcome...

to the web site of the Craniofacial Society of Great Britain and Ireland.

The Society was formed in 1970 by Mr Arnold Huddart and Mr Denis Glass on an ad hoc basis, and its subsequent success led to its formal constitutional establishment in April 1985.

Persons who are appropriately qualified and have a special interest in this field are welcome to apply for Ordinary Membership.
