| 2002-03 | Miss IS Hoult & Mr NSG Mercer, Bristol Re-evaluating the nerve supply of the human palate. Aims: To investigate the sensory and motor innervations of the soft and hard palate and to map the distribution of the nerves. Arterial studies have shown that the predominant supply is from the ascending palatine artery and not the lesser palatine artery as previously described - as nerves usually run with the vascular supply to an area the innervation may also differ. The study will be of microscopic dissections of human cadaver tissue and digital imaging to produce a composite map of the pathways of nerves in the palate. |

Aims: To identify the incidence of psychosocial problems in cleft affected children and to identify any relevant risk factors. 100 cleft affected children aged 10-16 yrs will be assessed on 8 psychosocial outcome measures and the results statistically analysed. | |
